Interesting Ebay Account Stats: 10-Q For Ebay INC

Taken from Yahoo Finance: 10-Q for EBAY INC shows some interesting financials on Ebay, and interesting statistical data on Ebay Revenue and Ebay Account Registrations.

According to this data, the number of registered Ebay Accounts went from 245.7 million in September 2007, to 370.2 million in September 2008. That's a 51% increase! "Active" registered Ebay Accounts went from 54.8 million to 65.3 million during the same period, according to this report. The differences are described as follows:

The first set of data refers to registered Ebay Accounts:
Cumulative number of unique user accounts, which includes users who may have registered via non-Skype based websites, as of the end of the period. Users may register more than once and, as a result, may have more than one account

The second set of data refers to "Active" Ebay Accounts: All registered accounts that successfully sent or received at least one payment or payment reversal through the PayPal system within the previous 12-month period.

So in summary, I am wondering. They have a new CEO I think? There is a lot of talk about some negative energy in the company right now, and they just laid off 1500 folks from their posts, nearly a 10% reduction, a decision made by the new ceo. This is all heresay though please note, I am only going from what I have read. Initiall I thought this meant Ebay was doing poorly but, here are some more figures that suggest they are not doing so bad:

Net Payment Volume: Up 32% in the 2007-2008 time period described above: defined as,
Total dollar volume of payments, net of payment reversals, successfully completed through the PayPal system during the period, excluding the payment gateway business.

I am not a financial guy really so if anyone wants to correct me in my thinking that Ebay is not going anywhere anytime soon, please let me know. Any comments?
